Movement Therapy and Exercise

Movement Therapy & Exercise for Parkinson’s Disease

Living an active lifestyle and exercising regularly is good for everyone’s health. For people with Parkinson’s disease, exercise has an added benefit. Participating in at least 2.5 hours of exercise per week is shown to slow symptom progression, improve mobility, and improve quality of life. People with Parkinson’s disease are encouraged to exercise to the highest extent of their ability.

The Importance of Daily Movement for People with Parkinson’s Disease

Below you will find a list of movement therapy and exercise classes for Parkinson’s disease across the Carolinas. Always consult your doctor before beginning a new exercise regimen.

We ask that you practice caution when participating in any exercises for Parkinson’s disease particularly exercise programs. Talk to your doctor about what program would be best for you, stay hydrated, exercise in a safe environment, move at your own pace, and preferably work with a partner or accredited instructor.

If you would like to submit your movement therapy class for public listing or would like to submit changes to a listed class, please contact pac@parkinsonassociation.org.
