Nutrition

NutritionThere is no specific Parkinson’s diet, but patients are encouraged to eat a healthy, balanced diet that is rich in fiber and plenty of fluids.  Eating high fiber foods and drinking water is also very important to avoid constipation.  Constipation is one of the most common symptoms of Parkinson’s disease.  Individuals who are taking medication to control their PD should discuss protein consumption with their neurologist.  Protein consumption may inhibit medication absorption and typically should be eaten 45 minutes to an hour before or after medication times.
